Company Overview

G4S plc (formerly Group 4 Securicor) is a British multinational security services company headquartered in Crawley, West Sussex. It is the world’s largest security company measured by revenues and has operations in around 125 countries. With over 620,000 employees, it is one of the world’s largest private sector employers. G4S was founded in 2004 by the merger of the UK-based Securicor plc with the Denmark-based Group 4 Falck.”

“G4S’s core services include ‘Manned security services’ – where it provides trained and screened security officers. The company also provides ‘Security systems’ such as access control, CCTV, intruder alarms, fire detection, video analytics and security and building systems integration technology. Monitoring and response services’ is another core service, where G4S provides key holding, mobile security patrol and response services and alarm receiving and monitoring facilities. G4S also provides ‘Secure facilities services’ which includes integrated facilities services for entire sites or estates for commercial customers and governments. The business provides ‘Risk management and consultancy services’ which also includes mine detection and clearance services. G4S also provides electronic tagging and monitoring of offenders at home or in the community. The company provides back office support functions for police forces, support for front line policing including the provision of custody suite services and forensic medical services. It also manages juvenile and adult custody centers. This includes the management of all aspects of a facility and those held within the facility – similar centers are also used for the detention of asylum applicants. Prisoner escorting is another core service. G4S transports prisoners and asylum applicants between courts, police stations and custody centers”

G4S – USA: Company History

G4S traces its roots to its 1901 founding in Denmark

Highlights of the company’s first 50 years include national growth in Denmark’s guarding sector with moves into independent fire and rescue services and into international markets. Between 1951 and 1989, the company continued its European growth with the emergence of Securicor and Group 4 and a partnership with British Telecom.

In 1990, Group 4 Securitas entered the U.S. market by purchasing American Magnetics Corp., which rebranded as AMAG Technology in 2001. With continued mergers and acquisitions in the 2000s, Group 4 Falck in 2002 purchased The Wackenhut Corporation. Founded in Florida in 1954, The Wackenhut Corporation was the second-largest security services company in the United States at the time.

In 2004, Group 4 Falck merged with Securicor to establish Group 4 Securicor and in 2006, the G4S brand identity was rolled out worldwide.

In 2008, G4S acquired Touchcom, Inc., a developer of web-based electronic security systems and facility management software. Touchcom would become part of G4S Technology.

In 2008, G4S acquired MJM Investigations, Inc., a market leader in insurance fraud and claims services. MJM Investigations was later rebranded as G4S Compliance & Investigations.

In 2008, G4S acquired RONCO Consulting Corporation, a commercial mine action, ordnance disposal and security company.

In 2009, G4S acquired Adesta, a U.S.-based provider of integrated security systems and communication systems. Adesta would later rebrand as G4S Technology. Headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, G4S Secure Integration was founded in 1988 as Kiewit Network Technologies by Peter Kiewit Sons’, Inc. In 1992, the company became MFS Network Technologies and changed its name to Adesta in 2002. G4S acquired Adesta at the close of 2009 and became G4S Technology LLC in 2011. In 2015, the company changed its name to G4S Secure Integration to better connect the business name with the capabilities and functions it performs.

In addition, G4S acquired Nuclear Security Services Company (NSSC) in 2010, which now sits within G4S Secure Integration.

In 2009, G4S acquired Sunshine Youth Services, a full-service, juvenile justice company operating residential treatment programs. Sunshine Youth Services became G4S Youth Services.

In 2010, The Wackenhut Corporation rebranded to become G4S Secure Solutions (USA) Inc.

In 2010, G4S acquired Western Investigations Pty Limited Australia, enhancing the global offerings of G4S Compliance & Investigations.

In 2011, G4S acquired The Cotswold Group, a surveillance, fraud analytics, intelligence and investigations company and merged it with G4S Compliance & Investigations.

Today with more than 50,000 employees across the United States, G4S is a leading provider of security solutions and one of the world’s largest employers.
